Lives in the Balance

Help preserve funding for mental health care next year

To help balance the state’s budget, Michigan House and Senate leaders are weighing huge cuts to mental health services. These cuts would drastically reduce the number of persons who can be served and the services organizations such as SCCMHA could offer. They would reduce our ability to provide psychiatry, case management, residential services of all types, skill building services, community living supports and a host of other services to people who are underinsured and uninsured.

That would leave many people with mental illness without the care they need.

We need your help to urge Michigan legislators to preserve funding for people who need it. You can learn more on this site:

  • Who will be affected by these cuts? Who will lose access to vital mental health services? Who will live … and who will die? Meet some of them.
  • How will the cuts impact the community’s healthcare, courts and law-enforcement providers? Find out here.
  • How can you help? Learn how to take action here.

Budget hearings will resume in early September, so it’s critical that we take action quickly … because lives are in the balance.
