SCCMHA receives highest-ranking
accreditation from international Commission.
SAGINAW, MI – Saginaw County
Community Mental Health Authority (SCCMHA) received
notice August 11, 2004, that they were awarded a
Three-Year Accreditation from the Commission on
Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
This accreditation outcome
represents the highest level of accreditation that can
be awarded to an organization and shows the
organization’s substantial conformance to the standards
established by CARF. An organization receiving a
Three-Year Accreditation outcome has put itself through
a rigorous peer review process and has demonstrated to a
team of surveyors during an on-site visit that its
programs and services are of the highest quality,
measurable and accountable.
In addition to being fully compliant
with all but eight of the over 300 performance
standards, the organization also received five
additional exemplary commendations.
CARF, founded in 1966, is a private,
not-for-profit organization that promotes quality
rehabilitation services by establishing standards of
quality for organizations to use as guidelines in
developing and offering their programs and services to
consumers. CARF uses the standards to determine how well
an organization is serving consumers and how it can
improve.
“We are thrilled with the results of
the accreditation process,” says SCCMHA CEO Sandra
Lindsey. “The real winners here are consumers we serve.
This accreditation means that consumers can be confident
that SCCMHA has made, and will continue to make, a
commitment to enhancing the quality of our services and
programs.”
Three surveyors, Tisha Deeghan,
Administrative Surveyor (Genesee County Community Mental
Health, Flint, MI), Anne Combs, M.A., LPCC, Program
Surveyor (Clermont Counseling Center, Amelia, OH) and
Chris G. Eiel, M.A., LPC, DAPA, Program Surveyor
(Recovery Management Consultants, Lincoln, NE) spent two
days in June meeting with SCCMHA leadership and staff,
local government and consumers to determine the degree
to which SCCMHA met CARF standards.
“Interview and survey results
reported such positives as strong, community-oriented
leadership in touch with the needs of the consumers
served, superior design and management of our training
program, consumer-friendly environments and
self-empowerment programs, and well-managed financial
operations just to name a few,” said Lindsey.
Programs and services surveyed
included Assessment and Referral: Mental Health (Adults,
Children and Adolescents), Case Management/ Services
Coordination: Mental Health (Adults, Children and
Adolescents), Crisis Intervention: Mental Health
(Adults, Children and Adolescents), Intensive
Family-Based Services: Mental Health (Adults, Children
