SCCMHA Compliance Program

The business of health care becomes more and more complex every day. SCCMHA has developed a comprehensive Compliance Program to aid in responding to the increase in federal and state laws and regulations.  The SCCMHA Compliance Program has been thoughtfully designed to:

  • Demonstrate to employees and the community at large SCCMHA’s strong commitment to be an honest and responsible provider of services to the community;
  • Provide a more accurate view of employee and contractor behavior relating to fraud and abuse;
  • Identify and prevent potentially criminal and unethical conduct;
  • Tailor a comprehensive compliance program specific to SCCMHA’s needs;
  • Improve the quality of care provided to the people of Saginaw County;
  • To comply with federal and state guidelines for the creation of an effective compliance program.

The Compliance Program at SCCMHA encompasses a range of legal and regulatory topics, including Advance Directives, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Michigan Mental Health Code, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), and the prevention of fraud and abuse involving Medicare or Medicaid.  Additionally, SCCMHA benefits from the resources of the Health Care Compliance Association (HCCA) through the SCCMHA Compliance Officer's membership in the HCCA.  HCCA is a 501(c)(6) member-based association for compliance professionals in the healthcare field.  HCCA provides training, certification, networking, and other resources to over 10,900 members.

HCCA’s Mission:  HCCA exists to champion ethical practice and compliance standards and to provide the necessary resources for ethics and compliance professionals and others who share these principles.

HCCA’s Vision:  The vision of HCCA is to be the pre-eminent compliance and ethics association promoting lasting success and integrity of organizations worldwide.
