SCCMHA Hancock generator active

Powered up and running! SCCMHA’s brand new generator, that is.

The Generac generator installed at 500 Hancock St. has officially been turned on and is fully functional as of April 13, 2024.

The desired purchase of a natural gas generator has been a long time coming, beginning back in March 2022 through a competitive mechanical vendor procurement/bid process to identify a way to ensure network servers and computers stay running at all supporting SCCMHA sites in the event of a power outage at our main Hancock location in Saginaw.

All servers and computers operate out of the main hub location at 500 Hancock, so when power goes down at Hancock, other satellite locations (A&W, Towerline, CF&Y, HRC, SE, CTN/CTS) would lose capability to operate network computer systems.

Further need for this stable natural gas generator solution at Hancock supports the agency’s extended 24/7 operations of Mobile Response and Stabilization Services (MRSS) ensuring electric utility service without interruption to the entire Hancock building at all floor levels. The installation of the natural gas generator was completed by crane drop on Dec. 14, 2023 with project management by William A. Kibbe (WAK) engineering firm and Consumers Energy running the natural gas line in early February and electrical wiring completed April 6 by a Master Electric contracted vendor.

The entire cost of the project was $411,147.

Our new generator will run automated self-tests monthly in maintaining quality operations and in the event of complications or trouble signals being sent to our fire/alarm panel, such service needs would be attended to by the SCCMHA Director of Environmental Services and/or SCCMHA Properties Supervisor.
