Access & Eligibility

The Central Access and Intake (CAI) unit is the first stop for anyone wanting to receive services with Saginaw County Community Mental Health Authority (SCCMHA).­ Located at 500 Hancock, we welcome you to call or walk-in for professional, compassionate and confidential help with questions, referrals for community resources, and routine screenings for adults with mental illness, children with serious emotional disturbance, individuals with developmental disabilities, and individuals with substance abuse treatment needs.

When you call, one of our friendly access staff will ask you questions that will help determine if you are eligible for services.­ They will ask you where you live and to describe what is happening in your life that makes you feel you need services.­ You will also be asked about your insurance and your income.

Together, you and one of our access staff will determine your next step:

  • If the situation you describe is an emergency, you will be directed to immediate help

  • If your situation is not an emergency and you may be eligible for services, we will make arrangements for an assessment to be completed.

  • If you are not eligible for services, we will help you identify community resources that may be available.

To speed up the process of helping you, please have the following information available when calling:

  • Medical insurance card or numbers, including Medicaid (if applicable)

  • Social Security number

  • Names of current doctors and medicines

  • Guardianship or court papers (if applicable)

  • Special education or other school records (if applicable)
